#DefundNoVaPolice

We stand in solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) and the 8toAbolition campaign when we call for the abolition of the Prison-Industrial Complex, which includes policing, surveillance, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and migrant detention. As others around the country push for a safer future, we are demanding that Virginia follow in the same footsteps and end centuries of police abuse and surveillance.

Community Organizing

We believe in the power of grassroots community organizing. Through door knocking, neighborhood meetings, and popular and political education, we support community members in their efforts to organize their neighbors, friends, and families.

For Us Not Amazon

La ColectiVA is an active member of For Us Not Amazon, a coalition in Northern Virginia for working people, immigrants, and people of color against an Amazon takeover in Arlington and Virginia. Our work with FUNA includes centering a community response to emphasize the impact of Amazon’s HQ2 on affordability, housing, and displacement, to demand and end of its collaboration with ICE and mechanisms of policing and surveillance that criminalize communities of color, and to hold elected officials accountable in sight of the major influence Amazon has in politics, further undermining democracy.

Past Campaigns

#UnitedAndFree

The #UnitedAndFree campaign, a partnership of more than a dozen local organizations, is recognizing a community victory after reports that the federal department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is no longer seeking space in Northern Virginia for a facility to detain migrant children and youth.

#CheckYourComplicity

Virginia elected officials have continued to receive political contributions from the same ICE contractors and collaborators enacting Trump’s agenda. Call on them to end all ties with these detention profiteers!

Abolition School

In Spring 2019 we had our initial Abolition School! Abolition school is a community space to understand the roots of the incarceration and deportation pipeline in Virginia and to identify shared methods to dismantle this pipeline through our daily lives and systemically.

Check out some materials and readings from our first abolition school and be on the lookout for upcoming opportunities to join a future school!
